I am proud to share a home state with Frederick Douglass. After reading his biography, I redefined freedom as one’s ability to express his or herself openly and not simply be tolerated but also accepted and woven into the fabric of a society through a concept known as social justice. Through my search of freedom and commitment to social justice, I discovered that the struggle that Fredrick Douglass fought for over a century ago was not over and that millions of people globally were crying for help but the “privilege” of a developed country had drowned them out. Every generation needs a revolution and I believe that it is up to us to emancipate those both physically and emotionally enslaved.
